The Harmony of Marriage in Islam

Marriage is a noble contract that forms the backbone of society and family relationships. From marriage comes parenthood, ties of kinship and lineage and maintaining harmony in marriage is essential. A breakdown in marital harmony does not only affect the husband and wife but children and extended families. There is an abundance of guidance in the Qur’an and Sunnah to aid maintaining the good relationship and harmony in marriage. Allah (swt) says,

“And live with them (your wives) in kindness and harmony…” Surah al-Nisaa :19
